the reason why i keep transferring my old written reviews on here is that i can't include pictures on epinions. i just feel that pictures can really help the reader understand some of the products i'm sharing my own opinion about. now enough disclaiming and on to my review...which i still believe in.
hathor2's Full Review: Smashbox Compact Anti Shine - hathor2 also my youtube user name, LOL shameless plug
|from the smash box website:|
Our best-selling ANTI-SHINE product in a portable mirrored compact for oil control touchups anywhere. Mattifies skin without disturbing your makeup or causing build up, and it won’t clog pores. Contains tea tree oil to help combat breakouts, and vitamin E to help repair skin damage.
Sweep the sponge provided over the COMPACT ANTI-SHINE. Press the sponge into oily areas on the skin. Do not "swipe" the sponge against the skin - by pressing the sponge you will lift excess oil from the complexion, without disturbing makeup.
Dimethicone, Talc, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Nylon-12, Neopentyl Glycol Diethylhexanoate, Euphorbia Cerifera Wax, Silica, Lauroyl Lysine, Acrylates Copolymer, Ozokerite, Sorbitan Trioleate, Polyethylene, Tea Tree Leaf Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Trisodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Mica, Bismuth Oxychloride, Titanium Dioxide, Ultramarines
This little $28 baby truly is compact. The compact comes in a sturdy two inches by two inches black plastic case. It has two levels; one for its mirror that doubles as the sponge's bed the bottom layer contains the semi gel semi solid product. The mirror is tiny, but you can at least see your nose. My nose is my main concern anyway.
It has no scent and it applies on smoothly. Either I use the black sponge applicator with it for touch ups or my finger after my moisturizer has dried or absorbed, the semi gel product kinda like soft wax consistency of the product slides on smoothly on my nose and t-zone area that it doesn't take a minute to put on, and it gets absorbed pretty quick since the whiteness of the semi gel product disappears right away. It's easy to spread as well. The sales lady at the smash box counter advised that I put this on after cleansing and moisturizer but prior to foundation and any all make up, so ok I took her advice. If I understood the description of the product and tip from the website, it can and should be used for touch ups which I am now doing meaning I have it on under my make up but am blotting my nose with it after I use my oil absorbent blotting paper. The product truly does not disturb my makeup. Nor does it cake-up my foundation or pressed powder. It dries or spreads clear so it doesn't change the tint of my pressed powder either.
I accumulate oil rather easily and my pores are getting bigger as I age so I also use the body shop's Seaweed Mattifying Daycream, I also use the body shop's seaweed pore perfector. So one may ask if the combination of these products is heavy on my skin, they are not. I can safely say that the addition of this smash box's anti shine product is very light on my skin, does not feel cakey. It easily washes off as well. No need for me to remove it with makeup remover or cold cream. It works to control my oily nose as well. It is possible that it's working in tandem with the body shop's seaweed mattifying daycream (a product I reviewed to be useful and does what it says). The addition of the smash box compact anti shine product lessens the oil I have to blot of my nose and face, so I use less of my blotting paper. In that sense it keeps my oily skin on my nose at bay. I think, too, that the talc in it fills up my pores so it helps in hiding my larger pores making them look evened out.
For those who were looking for a miracle product to be matte all day this is not the one. It lessens the oil I wipe off my nose theoretically because of the absorbing ingredients in smash box's anti shine like talc, but doesn't stop or keep me matte for a long time, longest is about two hours. It's too expensive for such an itty-bitty little compact. I probably won't buy this again and switch to smash box's anti-shine anti brilliance gel to powder product which has Magnesium, the same ingredient in Milk of Magnesia which this smash box anti shine compact does not have.
