REVIEW: SHISEIDO PERFECT REFINING FOUNDATION SPF15 - LOVE AT FIRST APPLICATION

Did you know? I still think myself as that silly blogger back in 2009 wanting to be the next bubzbeauty and fuzkittie with kpop as her music background? fast forward 4 years, and here i am, fallen madly in love with Japanese face and eye products.
about two months ago, i was at the shiseido white lucent relaunch as a partner blogger for the sample room. this foundation was used on me that day as part of my free makeover, and i knew i had to have it! at any rate there was a 15% discount on all products during the event so i got this baby at a marked down price (but it's actually PhP2250 for 30ml).  and thus this is the reason why i've yet another foundation in my arsenal. ♥☺
Please click on the pictures to enlarge them and that you'll be able to read the description written on the box.

as compared to my other favorite Japanese brand (where my shade is OCC03, my shade with Shiseido is Light Ocre 02
the ingredients are below.
no pump (yeah i know, for the cost right?) but it's still quite a hygienic way of dispensing the liquid and the packaging is at least travel light/friendly.
there's a product insert, too but below is what it looks like unblended
and poof, just like that, the green vein at the back of my left hand is now much less noticeable.
without flash, the coverage is amazing, and it softened my features.
it's slightly reflective with flash photography
but in day light, i just look polished and much more put together.
like, here
and here, very little eye makeup and a less than ostentatious or not a gaudy lip color yet finished face like this makes me look less tired and less in need of sleep.
foundation, foundation, foundation and the rest will follow.
LOVES:

  • travel size/friendly
  • shade match is perfect
  • really easy to blend
  • does not cake up
  • oil control is moderate a 3.5/5 1 being almost no oil control and 5 being bone dry
  • matte but not flat finish
  • superior pore coverage
  • medium to buildable coverage
  • does not break me out
  • does not collect in dry patches or pores
  • long lasting, lasts until you remove it
  • doesn't affect or change the shade of your blush because
  • it does not oxidize
  • feels so light on my skin and it doesn't get heavy as the day drags on
  • no weird scents or fragrance
  • can be used with a natural or synthetic haired brush, sponge or just with your fingers
  • doesn't dry TOO quickly gives enough time to blend out
  • available in Manila (for a long time now) at Shiseido boutiques in major malls in metro Manila
DISLIKES:
  • the price, for the same price you can get a 50 ml high end foundation
  • SPF15? stuck in 90's are we?
RECOMMENDATION:
I recommend this to women with combination oily skin and to women who think their pores are obvious.  I just love this thing.  now i have two hg foundations, this and my other japanese brand foundation ^_^

see you soon! indeed this is a good choice even for countries with hot climates ^_^

i think that's one of the things I like about Japanese brands. They rarely oxidize on me and for someone who lives in a desert that's a plus factor. ^_^

I am in the midst of looking for a great 'Japanese' foundation to fully utilize the last 3 months stay of the bf in Japan. I want to try this but it is expensive. :|

I think I want this <3

I love Shiseido foundations! They work really great. I got a small bottle of their Lifting-something foundation a while ago at their warehouse sale and it works amazing. Though I think it's more for the mature makeup users, the slightly shimmery foundation really adds a nice dewy, luminescent yet medium to heavy coverage. And of course I love my Majolica Majorca Skin Remaker pore cover foundation too!

it's quite expensive but i guess if it's worth it if it has superior pore coverage. :)

gora, no matter how shi++y the brush you use the foundation still applies and finishes so smoothly ♥

hi end kyeme sya. sa duty free hindi na masama ang presyo hehehe

yep, the sun's rays and the heat can significantly alter the chemical nature of any product. true, that. this foundation is prolly made with the really humid conditions of Japanese monsoon and summer seasons in mind.

true, love at first application, indeed ♥

indeed, now i don't know what to do what that revlon photoready still almost full at home. i'm sticking to my lunasol and shiseido foundations hahaha

Marge said...

wow you had me at warehouse sale ^_^
true, japanese makeup are worth the price ^_^ and the 140 years in the business, my money is on this brand.

Yeah, they do have that every near-Christmas, I think. They sell sample sizes for around less than Php500.00. I like that so I can really know if the product works for me before splurging out so much. :) Well yeah, I love their Integrate brand as well. I hope I can try Maquillage soon!

Marge said...

wee, thanks for the heads up ^_^
true, i only heard about integrate from fuzkittie LOL

Is fuzkittie still active on YT?

I have an Integrate eyeshadow palette which my friend got for me in Japan. The powder is sooooo fine and the shimmer/glitter is not chunky at all! The texture feels like butter on your lids and the payoff is quite good too even without a shadow primer. Too bad it's quite expensive for such a small amount. :(

I'm really waiting for the release of Kate Goldish Eyes line here! The SA in SM North Edsa told me that it might be released here in 2-3 months!

fuzkittie has deleted her yt account.
yep, japanese high end eye shadows are really really fine and creamy to apply and they like them shimmery. i was not impressed with the spring collection eye shadows from shiseido but their macquilage might be different.
japanese prices will always be higher because of the quality and name.
yes, kate will release a new line. though i prefer the eye shadows of majolica majorca, i prefer kate hehehe because kanebo philippines knows me :P

aww. I haven't been really following any beauty channels since last year.

Maquillage is so expensive even in Japan too but of course I want to try them in the near future as well. But I'd just ask anyone I know who will go to Japan to pick up some for me as it's cheaper there and without the shipping fee too. Hehe.

Majolica Majorca sometimes have very chunky/obvious glitter. I actually prefer Kate's more since it's more finely-milled. I just have more MM makeup because they're cheaper. XD Can't wait for the new collection to arrive here!

Marge said...

ah really, i only have the mm that fuzkittie once featured in her channel.
true, i was busy with kpop in 2012 and 2011 actually. the only people i actively watch now are still the same people i watched back in 2009 mainly bubzbeauty, pinkiecharm, michellephan hehehe, watching eatyourkimchi's beauty tutorials are laugh out loud funny ^_^
naaah, i'll buy majolica majorca in hk hehehe
true i want to see the kate summer/spring collection for 2013 ^_^

◕ ◡ ◕ thea said...

I don't have that one, I think. It's the one with the cream base, if I'm not mistaken.

I used to watch bubzbeauty and michellephan too but now, michellephan's tutorials are quite difficult to achieve with my very limited makeup stash. Nowadays, I just check Japanese magazines for makeup tutorials rather than watch them.

oh yeah, MM is cheaper din in other countries but since I don't have the luxury of going to HK, I'll stick with what we have here. ME TOO! can't wait. I hope it'll come out soon as I really want to try that pink/brown goldish eyes palette and the all gold one.

Marge said...

hehehe i bought my mm in bangkok and hk. it's cheaper here in manila by a couple to 300 pesos. but i'd still rather buy abroad. anyway, we have clio now so i'll try that out before I buy MM in manila. besides we have kate so i don't need mm. hehehe fine i'll buy majolica majorca if they sell through deal dozen so it's half off hahaha
i'd even rather pick up fascio stuff specially if matsumoto jun is still endorsing it.

◕ ◡ ◕ thea said...

Jun's only endorsing the mascara line though. I have the one he did last year around Winter/Spring line, I think and it does make my lashes remain curled and up the entire day, although it can be a pain in the butt to remove, even when using oil-based mascara removers. we used to have Fasio here though, sa SM and Rustan's. I can still remember that Aya Ueto used to be the one in the posters/signages here.

I haven't seen a new campaign for a new Fasio mascara though. Wish they could bring it back here kasi wala we don't have an accessible Kose brand here while Shiseido and Kanebo do.

Marge said...

yep, sm removed 2% a japanese clothing line from the shelves in the ladies department and fascio has been removed to make space for ahem MM.
wow aya ueto was here. kewlness.
i don't know why kose left rustan's :-(

◕ ◡ ◕ thea said...

hindi naman. it's been awhile already since Fasio was gone from SM. I was still in high school when I last saw Fasio in Rustan's e. Yeah, you could see her face on the plastic packaging of everything sold in the Fasio counter before. Mirei Kiritani is the endorser of Fasio now in Japan.
Have they left completely already? Esprique Precious is still in Rustan's Makati last time I checked around October last year. :\ They still had Sekkisei too.

Marge said...

fascio was in sm while kose was in rustan's. yep, the number of years that majolica majorca philippines has been in sm is about the amount of time fascio has not been available locally.
kose, hmmm hubby was still able to get me the kose xmas package for xmas 2011, the esprique precious. i guess that's the last cuz by the turn of the year into 2012, kose was off the shelves in rustan's.
sa sasa nalang mamili hahaha or yung favorite store ni fuzkittie imomoko.com (ebay name ianhaze)
