HEALTH / ANTI AGING: MOSBEAU COLLAGEN PLUS 12000 PRODUCT FEATURE

DISCLAIMER: I purchased this and two other boxes of 5 mosbeau collagen plus with my own money.  I buy them at Watson's.  Each box of 5 bottles is PhP925.  Each box lasts me about 10-15 days because it can be taken every other day and i still take another form of collagen. The Mosbeau girl at Watson's say this drinkable collagen should be taken every other day anyway otherwise you'd just pee it away.
Compared to Ivi, (the brand Gretchen B endorses), Mosbeau has 12000 mg of fish collagen while Ivi only has 10,000mg.  Another comparison point is that you can't buy the Mosbeau in singles, you can at least purchase Ivi in singles, php190+ per bottle. try one bottle first instead of getting stuck of 4 unopened bottles in case the taste of the drink doesn't appeal to you.  Though errr, Ivi tastes better in my opinion and less thick than Mosbeau
I'm not sure about endless collagen (the one that pops f endorses) i haven't tried that because it only has 5000mg of collagen.  endless collagen is available at mercury drug.  i may try that and stick with it because it's the brand out of the 4 i've mentioned that actually states that they use hydrolyzed collagen.
Piecing information i've read, the use of hydrolyzed collagen will deliver the collagen farther than just to your stomach.
well at least i get what i pay for?
  • Piscine (fish)
    • PROS: Collagen peptides from fish are considered to be superior in raising overall body collagen (Type 1) and improving skin, hair, nail, and bone quality.(2)
    • CONS: Fish collagen peptides generally cost more than other sources of collagen. (from amino-collagen.com)
The instructions are at least in English
still doesn't say hydrolyzed collagen but Mosbeau did reply back to my email and did say:
over and over, fish collagen, ok, Japan, we get it, it's pricey.
in case you didn't get it from the box, here's the info again.
Here's the common promise of collagen supplements: from herbwisdom.com

Benefits of Collagen Supplements

Many people take collagen supplements because of the substantial health benefits it has on the body. Anecdotal reports state that there are certain improvements when taken. However, little research has been done to support the effectiveness of these supplements. The substance is purported to assist individuals with arthritis and other illnesses affecting the joints or bones. Collagen helps to increase mobility and reduce pain. Collagen is also believed to improve the appearance of the skin, nails and hair. There are various topical health products that are available for enhancing the look of skin. Collagen injections are normally administered by plastic surgeons to correct skin indentations and plump up the skin.

What Type Of Collagen Do I Need? from amino-collagen.com

Comparing collagen supplementsTypes of Collagen:

There are numerous types of collagen found in the body, but, there are 3 main types of dietary collagen found on the market (see:product comparison chart). When it comes to choosing a collagen supplement, you should first know what part of the body you want to benefit.
  1. Type I Collagen
Comprises 90% of skin, hair, nails, organs, bone, ligaments.
  2. Type II Collagen
    Applies to cartilage.
  3. Type III Collagen
Applies to fibrous protein in bone, cartilage, dentin, tendon, and other connective tissues.
For skin and beauty (i.e. anti-aging), Type I Collagen is considered to be the best. Research in dermatology has shown that when Type I (overall body) collagen is increased, the results are visible in the skin.
From nutraingredients-usa.com:
Oral supplements of specific collagen peptides may improve skin elasticity by up to 30%, says a new study using Gelita’s Verisol branded ingredient.
The study, published in Skin Pharmacology and Physiology , is said to be the first clinical trial to demonstrate the efficacy of collagen hydrolysate (Verisol) at a low dosage (2.5 g/day) on skin physiology.
“The results clearly revealed that both dosages (2.5 and 5.0 g) of the specific collagen hydrolysate had a beneficial effect on skin physiology, as indicated by increased skin elasticity after 4 weeks of daily consumption,” wrote researchers from the University of Kiel (Germany), the Collagen Research Institute (Kiel, Germany), Skin Investigation and Technology (Hamburg, Germany), and the University of São Paulo (Brazil).
In contrast to most topically applied substances this positive effect of orally applied collagen hydrolysate on skin health seems to be long-lasting, especially in women over 50 years of age.
“Overall collagen hydrolysate intake over a longer period seems to have a positive impact on skin health. It has to be stated that the demonstrated efficacy refers to the specific collagen peptide composition (Verisol) used in this study and could not be extrapolated to collagen hydrolysate in general.”

Hydrolyzed Collagen from about.com

Hydrolyzed collagen is a substance produced by breaking down collagen derived from animal bone and/or connective tissues. The collagen is broken down by means of a process called hydrolysis, which involves the decomposition of compounds by reaction with water molecules. Many products marketed as collagen supplements or collagen-based beauty products contain hydrolyzed collagen.
>>>>>so in short: for collagen SUPPLEMENTS to work, a specific form of collagen needs to be ingested.  the hydrolysate kind of collagen.  so really, i'd prefer my collagen brand actually state what FORM of collagen it contains not just what kind. for more on the effect of hydrolysate collagen click here.My thoughts in this new Asian (Japan-Korean) craze.  Again, so far it's all anecdotal.  My sister says it works for her, many people online have even given their testimonials attached with the mugs ooops i mean pictures of the faces that 'wow, this thing is awesome' at least for them and at least for ME.
  • it's at least available at watson's where i can swipe my credit card and sm advantage card for points
  • it tastes so much better than the Shiseido Collagen drink, omg, this one from Mosbeau tastes way better. Mango they said, well, i'd contest that but ok, sure, it kinda taste like mango
  • it enhanced my collagen experience.  where as i used to only take 5250mg of collagen from my fine living hyaluron collagen. i believe taking the mosbeau hastened or at least enhanced what's supposed to happen specially to my skin.  i feel like my skin is the skin i had when i was 28 or at least 32.
  • the pimple scars i have are healing faster than they would normally do
  • the scratches i get from my cats and my sister's dog heal faster, too
  • it's harder to trim my nails now and they don't crack OR grow like in grains, yung parang may stripes pag tumubo yung nails? may nails don't feel like sharp edges of a broken plate like they kinda did before i started taking collagen.
  • so essentially, i got to where i am now faster than if i had just been taking the fine living hyaluron collagen.
If you're interested in collagen supplements but is far away from Asia or prefer your supplements western or in a pill. you can try the below: screen shot from amino-collagen.com, well their are meiji ones below hehehe.
REBUTTAL:  from: prevention.com
“Your body will break it down and use it for energy,” Dr. Rodan says. “Digestive enzymes are powerful, so the collagen won’t be absorbed into your bloodstream, meaning they won’t make it to your skin.”
oh so paano? excerpt also taken from prevention.com
So if guzzling collagen won’t do the trick, how can women increase their collagen levels? Dr. Rodan suggests tretinoin, a derivative of vitamin A and often used as an acne treatment, which penetrates far into the skin. “This is important because collagen is under the epidermis,” she says. In other words, any product needs to penetrate deeply to make a difference.
While tretinoin requires a prescription, an over-the-counter retinol can also help. “They both convert to collagen-boosting retinoic acid,” Dr. Rodan says. Plus, retinol is less irritating than its stronger, prescription counterpart. Not sure which is best for you? We’ve rounded up the Best Age-Reversing Retinols to suit your skin.
oh so paano ulit? scam? yeh, medyo.  after i spent 3k on mosbeau and about 5k since around May on the fine hyaluron and collagen sachets? well, i'll add to the anecdotal testimonials regarding collagen supplements.
REBUTTAL:
  • ate Marge, you look young anyway, your mom and your aunt don't look their ages.
    >true, but it doesn't mean that my hair isn't thinning out and easily break, my nails easily crack, too.  on top of which no matter how much lotion i apply, after a while i can write my name on my arms and legs and see the writing in white (the skin scratched off)
  • ate Marge, you're childless and are not in a stressful managerial position and you hardly go under the sun - so you don't go through what most women go through to accelerate their aging
    >true but it doesn't mean i don't stay up all night watching kpop videos online or kdramas when they're on rerun on kbs world.  so yeah, i actually get very little sleep, regardless of reason.
  • ate Marge, i see the food you post on your instagram you eat well and try to maintain a balanced diet.
    >and that's the thing i try, i still need to supplement what i eat with well, supplements.  it's the fad, a Japanese/Korean fad so i had to check it out LOL
My final thoughts:
I recommend this to anyone who's in their mid 30's and who's already experiencing hair breakage, flaking nails and easily damaged skin.  DO your research.  don't be a dumb-dumb like me and spend thousands of pesos before realizing what brand to buy.
Will I continue taking collagen supplements? i reckon i will.  i'll try the other brands specially the ones that ACTUALLY SAY HYDROLYZED COLLAGEN for some added assurance that my hungry tummy won't just break up the collagen i drink into lesser proteins like normal meat.
